Sub-Area: Domain Navigation
Issue
After creating a new domain in DataHub, the domain does not immediately appear in the left navigation menu under the Domains section. This can cause confusion as users expect newly created domains to be visible right away in the navigation interface.
You Might Be Asking
- Why isn't my newly created domain showing up in the navigation?
- Is this a bug when domains don't appear immediately?
- How long should I wait for a new domain to appear?
Solution
There are several reasons why a newly created domain might not appear immediately in the navigation menu:
- Search Index Synchronization Delay: The most common cause is a temporary lag in the Elasticsearch index update. This typically resolves automatically within 5-10 minutes.
-
Pagination Limitation: If your organization has more than 25 existing domains, the new domain may be on a subsequent page that requires manual loading.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Domains section in the left navigation
- Look for and click the "Load more" button to load additional domains
-
Browser Cache Issues: Perform a hard page refresh to ensure the latest data is loaded:
- Windows/Linux: Press
Ctrl + RorCtrl + F5 - Mac: Press
Cmd + RorCmd + Shift + R
- Windows/Linux: Press
Verification Steps
- Wait 5-10 minutes after domain creation
- Check if you can access the domain directly by navigating to Govern → Domains
- If the domain appears in the Domains management page but not in the navigation, try the solutions above
- Verify you have the proper "Manage Domains" privilege if the domain doesn't appear anywhere
Additional Notes
This behavior is not a product defect but a known characteristic of how DataHub handles domain indexing and navigation pagination. In DataHub Cloud environments, all backend services and indices are fully managed, so no customer-side infrastructure changes are needed. If the issue persists beyond 10 minutes or occurs frequently, contact DataHub Support for assistance with reindexing domain indices.
