Issue
DataHub Cloud administrators can accidentally downgrade their own admin role to reader by clicking reader invite links. When this occurs, the invite system overwrites existing admin privileges instead of preserving them, potentially leaving no admin users available to restore access.
You Might Be Asking
- How can I regain admin access after clicking an invite link?
- Why did my admin role get downgraded to reader?
- Can I prevent this from happening in the future?
Solution
- Contact DataHub Support immediately if you've lost admin access. DataHub Support can restore your admin role through backend operations.
- When contacting support, provide:
- Your user email address
- The specific invite link that caused the issue (if available)
- Your DataHub Cloud instance URL
-
Prevent future occurrences:
- Ensure multiple users have admin privileges before using invite links
- Avoid clicking invite links if you already have access to the instance
- Upgrade to DataHub Cloud v1.0.x or later, which includes a fix for this issue
Additional Notes
This was a known product bug affecting DataHub Cloud versions prior to v1.0.x. The issue has been resolved in v1.0.x-cloud and later versions, where the invite system now properly preserves existing admin roles. For self-hosted deployments, administrators have additional recovery options through direct database access or the default 'datahub' root user.
